Technology breakthrough saves merchants money

Visual Horizons Software has teamed up with industry-leader X-Charge SolutionTM to bring you competitive rate, credit card processing right from ConsignPro.

Using the "X-Charge" software program (developed by CAM) in conjunction with the ConsignPro POS routine (Amount Due screen), you can quickly and easily process credit card transactions right from ConsignPro!!

With this setup, you will no longer need your credit card terminal or credit card receipt printer.  Instead, you will swipe the customer credit card using a special swipe reader (optional) attached to your computer and credit card receipts will print on your Star SP2000 or TSP600 receipt printer!

System Requirements:

  1. ConsignPro Version 5.0.  Visit our Update Page.
  2. X-Charge software by CAM Commerce Solutions.
  3. A working modem on your computer and available phone line.
  4. A credit-card swipe reader (optional, but suggested).
  5. A Star SP2000 or TSP600 receipt printer.
  6. A signed merchant agreement with CAM Commerce Solutions.

How it works:

  1. When you are completing a sale in ConsignPro, select a credit card from the payment types drop-down list.
  2. When the special credit card screen appears, swipe the customer card through the optional card swipe reader or enter it manually.
  3. Confirm the information presented on the screen.
  4. Click the "Process" button.
  5. When the sale completes, a credit card receipt for the customer to sign prints after the usual 3" customer receipt.

ConsignPro, talking to X-Charge software, processes the transaction using your computers modem.  When the transaction is complete, ConsignPro gives you the status of the transaction (approved, declined, reason, etc).  Then, as you complete the sale, ConsignPro prints both a customer receipt and credit card slip for the customer to sign - it's that simple.

How to get started:

  1. Signup online or view a sample video at http://www.vhsoftwarex.com, or,
  2. Contact Bill Crook at X-Charge at (800) 217-3927. He may ask you to provide your last merchant card processing statement to determine the best rates they can provide.  Identify yourself as a Visual Horizons Software customer to be included with our group rates.
  3. After reviewing and accepting their offer, sign a merchant agreement with X-Charge.
  4. Download Version 5.0 (or later) of ConsignPro and install the update on your computer(s).
  5. Download and install X-Charge software from our Support Page.
  6. Call us to configure ConsignPro and X-Charge at 305.535.0959.

Frequently asked Questions:

Q:  Can I use X-Charge with a DSL or cable modem connection?

A:  Yes, however there is a charge for using broadband access with X-Charge - contact X-Charge for details.

Q:  Will any modem work with X-Charge?

A:  We've had mixed results testing modems with X-Charge. If your modem is 100% Hayes-compatible it should work fine, if not we suggest a US Robotics external modem connected to an open serial port on the back of your PC. These modems are available on eBay for about $20. The only way to determine if your modem is compatible is to install X-Charge software and run a test "Settlement review".

Q:  What other fees or charges apply using X-Charge?

A:  X-Charge charges a $10/month statement fee (as most processors do) to prepare and mail monthly credit card statements to you.  CAM also charges a $10/month support charge which includes X-Charge software tech support and version updates to their software.

Q:  Can I process credit cards in ConsignPro with my current merchant service?

A:  No.  ConsignPro was programmed to talk only to the X-Charge software and the computers at CAM Commerce only.  If you want to process credit cards directly from ConsignPro you must use X-Charge and CAM Commerce.

Q:  Is it required that I process credit cards from ConsignPro?

A:  No.  You can process credit cards using any bank that you are comfortable with using the equipment provided by that bank.   However, our rates are equipment are competitively priced and many store owners like the integration we've built into the software.

Q:  Is the service available for Canadian customers?

A:  Unfortunately it is not available at this time.   Discussions are occurring now that may make if available in the future, however.

Q:  Will X-Charge software be shipped to me with a user guide?

A:  Yes, after the approval is complete, you will receive a welcome package from CAM Commerce with X-Charge and complete documentation.

Q:  How long does the application approval process take?

A:  Normally 5 business days.

Q:  I'm running 2 POS stations, do I need 2 phone lines and 2 modems?

A:  No.  X-Charge can be configured to use a single modem on a "server" with a single phone line.  As you would suspect, however, only one charge can be made at a time.

Q:  What credit cards can I process using X-Charge?

A:  X-Charge support all major credit cards, however, ConsignPro is limited to MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express at this time.

Q:  Are there modems that work particularly well with this process.

A:  All modems should work fine, however, we've had excellent success and recommend the U.S. Robotics external modem (28.8 kbs or faster).   They are available on eBay for about $10.

Q:  Do I NEED the credit card swipe?

A:  No, but you would have to manually type in the credit card number and expiration date for each card processed.  Most store owners find the additional investment well worth it.
